ROLES OF A FATHER
1. 1. Head of the Family - In Ephesians 5:23 “For the husband is the head of the wife, even as
Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body “. The father
should be the head of the family a follower of God. The wife should submit to
her husband. The father should be a strong pillar and foundation of the house
strengthens with the power of the Lord.
2. 2. Love your wife –
According to Ephesians 5:25 “Husbands,
love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; “ . Ask
yourselves “ If given another chance, would you still marry the same person as
your wife? “ , No matter what the difference, the conflicts , the problems that
you go through your love for your wife should not change , and should not
depend on your feelings or emotions. It is a commandment from the Lord that the
husband should love your wife and that should never change for life time.
3. 3. Lead your family in service and worship – the Father
should be the leader of worship and service to God. According to survey if the
father is an active servant of God , 75% possibility that the children will
also be active in service to God , but if only the mother was active servant
only 15% of the children was active in service. It only shows that the father
has the authority and the power to lead the children towards service to God.
The father should be a good role model and example for his children to follow
and obey. Genesis 35: 1-3 “And
God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an
altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of
Esau thy brother.” 2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were
with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and
change your garments: 3 And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make
there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was
with me in the way which I went. “ When the Lord commanded Jacob he obeyed the
Lord and lead his family to serve the Lord and worship him.
4. Teach and train your Children –the father should lead by example and teach his children the ways of the Lord. In Ephesians 6:4 “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. “

Deuteronomy
6:8-9 “8But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. 9These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a
just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. “ Noah is an example of a good father who
walked with God and follow his teachings.
Proverbs
22:6 “Train up a child in the way he
should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. “ There is
a power in what you declare and what you speak of your children. Your word and
teachings has the power to make your child a better person someday.
5. 5. Provide
for His Family 1 Timothy 5:8 “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for
those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
“ The father should work hard and provide for the needs of his family, basic
needs, education and other needs. Even it will mean that you have to deprive
yourself of buying branded and expensive things for yourself but your children’s
needs be prioritize, a father should do some sacrifices for your family, for
instance do some more overtime, or even have some additional part time job just
to provide well for your family. A father should also lead by example in
supporting the church needs, I believe that the more you learn to give for the
Lords glory the more blessings will come and you will experience the promise of
amazing grace from God.
6. 6. Discipline your Children- Hebrew 12:6-11 Hebrews 12:6-11New International Version (NIV)
6. 6. Discipline your Children- Hebrew 12:6-11 Hebrews 12:6-11New International Version (NIV)
6 because
the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”[a]
7 Endure
hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For
what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If
you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not
legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. 9 Moreover,
we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it.
How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and
live! 10 They
disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us
for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 No
discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces
a harvest of righteousness and peace for
those who have been trained by it. “
What
will happen to the children who honor and obey their parents?
Ephesians
6 : 1-3 1 “Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with
promise;) 2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with
promise;) 3 That it may be
well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. “ Children who are
obedient to their parents will live long and be blessed by the Lord, for giving
honor to their mother and father for this is the commandment from the Lord.
